Moscow Tidbits – 9/7/17

Here are a few little pieces of information that I found interesting or noticed since I have been here.

1.Ice Cream seems very popular here. Everywhere I walk I see people licking at a cone, even in this 50 degree weather. At one of the big malls “GUM” in the city center, there are cute little ice cream stands everywhere. Apparently they have an old secret ice cream recipe. It was pretty tasty!

2.I was warned that the drivers here are crazy and the traffic is insane. I don’t know if that is true for sure or not yet, but I am impressed with how consistently cars stop for pedestrians. Even when I was hurrying across the light, a little after I should have been, none of the cars inched forward or beeped. They sure don’t honk like in NYC!

3.To cross major streets you typically have to walk under the street. Sometimes there are shops or a metro station underground in the passageway as well. Other times it is just like an underground hallway to the other side of the road. You would think if you are crossing a street straight across you could go down the stairs, straight ahead and back up the stairs….but no it can be a little village down there with lots of twists and turns. Or at least it seems that way when all you want to do is get to the other side of the street! I wonder if Russians have a whole new level of the how did the chicken cross the road joke!?

4.It appears that Russian wear their wedding rings on their right ring finger instead of their left.
