#1: Jewel Runaway Bay Beach & Golf Resort

Jewel Runaway Bay All-inclusive resort Jamaica

Read my full review of Jewel Runaway Bay.

Jewel Runaway Bay is the perfect resort for families. There are activities to keep all ages happy. Young children are happy to play at the waterpark and swim in all the pools. Older children love the waterpark slides and the daytime beach games. Young adults enjoy the unlimited drinks, water-sports in the ocean and the late night entertainment. Playing a round of golf or relaxing on a sunbed at the beach are favorite activities of many older adults. I know my family enjoyed doing a variety of activities during the day and all coming together for the delicious food at the restaurants in the evenings.

Location:

Located in the town of Runaway Bay, the resort is about an hour and half away by bus from Sangsters International airport in Montego Bay. It is about 30 minutes from the town of Ocho Rios, where most of the excursions take place.

Rooms:

The rooms are clean and spacious. There are some suites available that come with personal butler service. Personal plunge pools also come with some of the first floor rooms. Inside every room is a refrigerator that is re-stocked daily with bottled water and other alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages.

Food:

During the day you can enjoy a buffet with a huge range of options, as well as a pizza restaurant and a couple of cafes. At the infinity pool, thanks to the swim-up bar, you don’t even need to get out of the water for drinks. In the evening, in addition to the buffet there are four other speciality restaurants to try. It’s hard to choose a favorite, because I enjoyed them all, but I would probably have to pick the Jade Samurai. This hibachi style restaurant serves delicious vegetables, meats and seafood, made in front of your very eyes!

Amenities:

With a private stretch of beach for the resort, three pools, two jacuzzis and a waterpark, what more could you want? I don’t know why you would ever want to get out of the water, but if you do there is a golf course and spa on the property.

Things to Do:

The pools, beachfront, spa, golf course and daily entertainment provide plenty to do right at the resort. There are fun beachfront games during the day. In the evenings there are shows and activities like casino night or karaoke. If you want to explore more of Jamaica you can take day excursions to Ocho Rios and climb Dunn’s waterfalls, visit Mystic Mountain, jump into the Blue Hole, horseback ride in the ocean, learn about Bob Marley or my personal favorite, swim with dolphins!

#2: Jewel Paradise Cove Resort & Spa

Jewel Paradise Cove

By Charmaine Hutton of Jamaica Travel SaverPinterest

When I think of Jewels Paradise Cove the first word that comes to mind is charming. It is a small, beautiful and relaxing property and a great option for couples or singles on a budget.  If you want to relax by the pool, enjoy the swim up bar or simply unwind for a few days this is the perfect option.

Location:

Jewel Paradise Cove is located in the town of Runaway Bay which is around ½ hour from the resort town of Ocho Rios and around 1 ½  hours from the Sangsters International airport in Montego Bay.

Rooms:

This hotel is a pretty compact hotel and all the amenities are close to each other. The rooms are situated in a series of blocks and are available with ocean, garden or pool views. The rooms are pretty adequate and come with the usual amenities.

Food:

There was a nice variety of food options at the resort. My favorite section at the breakfast buffet was the Jamaican breakfast area where you could try Jamaican breakfast foods such as ackee and saltfish and Johnny cakes.

A nice touch was the natural juice bar and the jerk shack by the beach, I pretty much spent most of my time here during the day!  There is also a pizza restaurant which serves pretty good pizza; an added plus is the bar upstairs that offers great views of the coastline.  There is also a grill by the pool that serves casual food during the day and a formal lunch buffet if you want something more substantial for lunch. For night-time dining you can have Japanese, Mediterranean or Teppanyaki style dining.

Amenities:

The beach is pretty small and really is just a cove and not the best for swimming.  However, the two swimming pools on property make up for this.

Things to Do:

Activities such as kayaking and sailing are available. There is an added charge if you want to go on the glass bottom boat or go diving. If you like to play golf there is a golf course nearby that belongs to Jewels. Something you should keep in mind is there are not a lot of attractions in Runaway bay.  If you want to visit attractions such as Dunns River Falls, Mystic Mountain or Dolphin Cove it’s a half hour drive to Ocho Rios.

#3: Sandals Royal Plantation

Sandals Royal Plantation

By Megan Freeman of A Suitcase to AnywhereInstagram

Sandals Royal Plantation is an exclusive couples resort on the northern coast of Jamaica.  Sitting on a stunning private beach, this small resort has 74 guest rooms, all featuring butlers and ocean views. With a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, Sandals Royal Plantation is the perfect choice for couples seeking a romantic getaway. The manicured gardens, wandering peacocks, and attentiveness of the staff make staying here a truly unforgettable experience.

Location:

Sandals Royal Plantation is located 1.5 hours from Sangster International Airport outside the busy port city of Ocho Rios. It is adjacent to sister property, Sandals Ochi, and less than 10 minutes from downtown Ocho Rios.

Rooms:

The spacious guest rooms are beginning to show their age, but are luxurious nonetheless. Our Great House Oceanfront Suite featured a king-sized four poster bed, a small sitting area and French balcony with breathtaking views of the Caribbean sea.

Food:

The 4 a-la-carte restaurants at Sandals Royal Plantation were spectacular. At lunchtime, we enjoyed indulging on coconut shrimp, burgers and fries at the Beach Grill.  For dinner, we loved the elegant atmosphere and the French cuisine at Le Papillion, and the surf & turf at the beachside Royal Grill.

Amenities:
This all-butler resort provides nothing but the best for its guests. They offer free shuttles to and from Sangster International Airport, as well as to and from Sandals Ochi next door. The property features a small swimming pool, tennis courts and a fitness facility, and each guest-room offers 24/7 room service and a free minibar stocked with premium alcohol.
Things to Do:
With the many amenities on site and the exchange privileges at the neighboring Sandals Ochi, there are a wide variety of activities to entertain guests. The resorts provide all types of water sports equipment, and offers unlimited scuba diving and golfing. We spent our days lounging on the beach, snorkeling by the piers, exploring the properties, and visiting nearby tourist attractions including Dunn’s River Falls and the Blue Hole.

#4: Sandals Royal Caribbean

Sandals Royal Carribean Jamaica

By Lora Pope of  Explore with LoraInstagram

I spent a week relaxing at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay, as a guest for my friend’s wedding, which was truly a getaway into paradise. Aside from the gorgeous location, what I loved most about this resort is how above and beyond the staff will go to make sure your experience is amazing. They even surprised us with a private dinner on the beach one night! This is an adult only resort marketed towards couples, so I wouldn’t recommend it to people traveling alone or with a family.

Location:

The location is right in Montego Bay. It’s just a short drive from the airport and the resort offers a courtesy shuttle for guests. There isn’t much to do in the immediate area but the beaches surrounding the resort are gorgeous and guests have the option to take day trips to other points of interests in Jamaica directly from the resort if they want to leave.

Rooms:

The resort offers several different classes of rooms to stay in, ranging from standard hotel rooms to private island cabanas on the water with full butler service.

Food:

The food at the resort was incredible. There were eight different restaurant options to choose from including a delicious French Bistro and a Thai restaurant. Guests also have the option to visit other Sandals resorts in Montego Bay for no additional costs to try their specialty restaurants.

Amenities:

The amenities at the resort are excellent. As a fully inclusive resort, you get access to 8 restaurants, unlimited drinks, 5 bars, several pools, snorkeling, unlimited diving, water sports, entertainment, and more.

Things to Do:

There are more than enough included activities to do during the day and at the night the resort puts on entertainment for guests. There are also a number of day tours you can do to other points of interest in Jamaica for an additional cost.

 #5: Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort

Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort

By Miranda Knudtson of MirandaKnudtson.comInstagram

The Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort and Spa is a gorgeous all-inclusive resort. I spent a week at this resort with my best friend, but we also saw couples and families visit.

Location:

The resort is located in Lucea, Jamaica, which is a short 40 minute bus ride from the Montego Bay airport. I preferred a resort at this location because it was close to the airport, as well as Negril for other excursions.

Rooms:

Our room was stunning and had plenty of towels for the pool and beach, a mini fridge stocked with beer and water daily, and wifi and TV. Our room even had a balcony with a gorgeous view of the ocean.

Food:

This all-inclusive resort has 7 a la carte restaurants with a variety of cuisines to choose from, as well as three buffets for breakfast and lunch. There were 13 bars scattered all over the resort, though my favorites were the pool and beach bars!

Amenities:

They had a private beach just for those staying at the resort with various water sports available. The image shown is really only PART of the pool; its about twice that size! Further off to the left is a separate pool for kids with little fountains and a play structure. Most of the families with the little ones were over there, so the larger pool was mostly adults and some teenagers.

Things to Do:

Tour companies are located conveniently in the lobby to book outside excursions, but the Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort had plenty of things to do if you chose to spend your entire trip there. They had choreographed dance shows every night with fun audience participation before each show. The entertainment group, called POP: People of Palladium, held themed parties each evening throughout the week as well as planned activities during the day. All of the bartenders and employees were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our entire week long stay.

#6: Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa Jamaica

By Lindsay Frank of See Mom ClickInstagram

Hilton Rose Hall Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica is a great destination for a family vacation. The beach is beautiful with plenty of lounge chairs available. The staff are so friendly. Great food, an amazing waterpark, and exciting nightly entertainment are all things that make this resort a stand-out.

Location:

This resort is in Montego Bay, so it’s very close to the airport. We love not having long rides to and from the airport to maximize actual vacation time.

Rooms:

The rooms are comfortable and provide all of the usual amenities. A little tip: Request an upgrade! It never hurts to ask. We asked for an ocean view room and got one! We spent so much time on the balcony looking at the ocean.

Food:

Some restaurants require reservations, so we found ourselves eating at the buffet for most meals (easier with kids). The food varied each day and was delicious. Be sure to find the coffee shop on the beach, too!

Amenities:

Meals and drinks are all included at this resort (however, bring some small bills for tipping).

Things to Do:

The waterpark is the highlight of this resort for families. The lazy river and slides are a blast, and you can come right off the slide and swim over to the pool bar!

#7: Holiday Inn Resort Montego Bay

Holiday Inn Resort Montego Bay

By Vicky Sosa of Buddy the Traveling MonkeyFacebook

During our visit to Jamaica, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Resort Montego Bay. We loved every second that we were there, as the service was just incredible and there were so many amenities. We barely left the resort during our 4 day visit!

Location:

The Holiday Inn Resort is conveniently located only about 15 minutes away from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.

Rooms:

Our room felt like a small luxurious apartment, with a living room, huge bathroom (with a whirlpool!), and king size bed.

Food:

The resort also has many food options, including a buffet style restaurant and three other restaurants that are included with the all-inclusive meal package. There are also four bars and a pool-side grill.

Amenities:

As far as amenities, the resort boasts a gym, tennis court, mini golf, casino, and kid zone, as well as two pools and half a mile of beautiful beaches. They also have a private island you can wade out to called “Tek-it-Easy.”

Things to Do:

The resort also offers various programs throughout the day, including fitness classes by the pool and live music and dancing in the evenings. So whatever your mood, you can socialize or simply lounge on a chair and listen to the ocean. Either way, we know you’ll love your time at the Holiday Inn Resort Montego Bay.

I’ve always wanted to visit this region and wondered what were the best resorts. I don’t have children so would probably skip the family resorts. The Sandals Royal Plantation looks amazing. It says that it’s a couples resort, but I wonder if it has to be a romantically involved couple or if it can be any couple 🙂

    • admin

I would go to an adults only resort if I was visiting without children too. To me Sandals Royal Plantation sounds like it is geared towards romantic couples, but I don’t think it would have to be. They probably just market towards the honeymoon or anniversary experience, but I bet any adults would enjoy it!

This is such a useful list of resorts in Jamaica. I visited this country several times when I was working on cruise ships but I wasn’t really informed about places to stay. The excursions that you mentioned are just amazing. Jumping into the blue hole and hiking the jungle around is one of the best memories I have about my travels!

    • admin

I didn’t get to jump in the blue hole or hike the jungle, but I would love too! There is so much to do at the resorts that it is hard to pull yourself away to do all the excursions!

I have always wanted to visit Jamaica and staying in an a-inclusive resort will be an excellent idea. I loved the Hilton Rose Hall Resort in Montego Bay. The pool looks awesome and its close proximity to the Bay makes it my preference. Thanks for the list.

  • Nicole Hunter

All of these resorts look amazing. I would be happy to be plucked up right now and deposited on a lawn chair with a cocktail with a small umbrella in it! Thanks for the recommendations. Some heat and sun sounds wonderful at the moment.

  • Sydney

I had no idea that Holiday Inn has resorts! This one sounds really nice and I bet the prices are great too. I’m hoping to plan a trip to Jamaica soon so I’ll have to check all these places out!

    • admin

Previously I didn’t know Holiday Inn had resorts either! I hope this list off resorts in Jamaica helps with your future trip planning!

I visited Jamaica in 2012 and stayed at a Riu resort in Montego Bay. It was an awesome vacation and I really loved Jamaica. I have wanted to go back to the Rose Hall resort since they used it as part of the Outlander set. Great details.
