Looking for the best travel booking sites and travel resources? You are in the right spot! These are all the travel planning sites, tools and resources that I personally use and recommend.

Accommodation

Booking.com

Hotels, Hostels & More: Booking.com

This is my go to site for almost all of my accommodation bookings, whether I am staying in a hostel or a 5 star resort. What I like about it is the search filters you can apply, such as breakfast included or rooms with air conditioning only. The map view allows you to see the accommodation in relation to transportation hubs and the main sightseeing spots.

When I first started using the site I would price check against other sites and the actual hotel's site. Occasionally a place would be cheaper elsewhere, but I found that a comparable place with similar amenities would be cheaper on booking.com.

After two bookings you receive genius perks, which include 10% discount on the majority of hotels. Free cancellation on many properties and the booking assistant app are other helpful perks of the site. I wrote a full review of booking.com.

Apartments: AirBnB

I love to do slow travel, so when I am staying somewhere for more than a week I usually book with AirBnB. It's cheaper than hotels and I feel more like a local with my own apartment. If it is your first time booking with AirBnB use this discount code.

Flights

Flight Aggregator: SkySkanner

Perfect for finding the cheapest flight deal. SkySkanner has a great map feature that allows you to see direct routes and prices for various destinations all at once. I love seeing all the different options and of course saving money on my flights!

Flight Aggregator: Kayak

Another one of my go to sites for booking the cheapest flights. Kayak has easy search features, including monthly prices at a glance.

Airline: Southwest

I can't say enough good things about Southwest. Even though they are a low-cost airline, they have one of the most generous baggage policies and their service is always friendly. Southwest flies within the United States and to some destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.

Airline: Delta

Delta is my other go to US airline. I love Delta's customer service and variety of routes.  With my Delta SkyMiles credit card I rack up the points and get to take a checked bag for free.

Airline: Norwegian

Norwegian is another great low-cost airline that does long-haul flights. They fly mostly in Europe, but also have routes to NYC, Buenos Aires, Morocco and a few other international destinations.

Airline: Lufthansa

One of my favorite European airlines. Lufthansa always has quality planes and service.

Airline: LATAM

When in South America go with LATAM.

Transportation

Airport Shuttles: Go Airport Shuttle

I avoid taking taxis whenever I can. If possible I take public transportation, but sometimes I just have way too much luggage or I am arriving late at night. During these times taking an airport shuttle is the perfect option. It is much easier than hauling your baggage and figuring out a bus or a metro and it is cheaper than a taxi! Check to see if Go Airport Shuttle is available at the city you are visiting.

Taxis: Uber or Lyft

Sometimes due to the time of day or the amount of luggage I can't avoid taking a taxi. Within the USA I always use Lyft as I have heard that the drivers are treated better. Unfortunately Lyft is only available in the US. Uber is worldwide and usually safer and cheaper than taking the local taxis. It's best to do some research or check with locals to know the best taxi option in the city you are visiting.

Europe Train Travel: Trainline

Within Europe you really don't need a car to get around. You can take buses and trains almost everywhere. Search and buy tickets for both on Trainline.

UK Train Travel: Railcard

Within the UK save money on train travel by buying a railcard. There are various types of railcards available that will save you money after only a train trip or two. My mom and I bought the two together card and after only one trip from London to the Lake District we already saved more than the cost of the card.

Tours

Day Adventures & Tours: Get Your Guide

Get Your Guide offers a variety of tours, activities and transportation options worldwide. As a solo traveler I enjoy joining some group tours during my travels, especially for more active activities. A good thing about get your guide is that they list the company directly so if you have any particular questions or want to read additional reviews you know who you are traveling with.

Day Adventures & Tours: Viator

Viator is another booking site for day tours and attraction tickets. It's worldwide and well-known so each tour or activity typically has a lot of reviews. It's easy to find the best options.

Travel Reviews & Activity Bookings: TripAdvisor

If you are like me you probably know TripAdvisor as your go to place for travel reviews. But did you know you can also book day and multi-day tours on trip advisor? It's great because you can get reviews from hundreds of tour goers and book in the same place.

Travel Insurance

World Nomads

Don't leave home without travel insurance! If you are an American you will be happily surprised with the cost of travel insurance abroad. I was grateful I used World Nomads insurance when I got injured in Buenos Aires and needed to cancel my upcoming travel plans. I like World Nomads because it is straightforward. You understand your coverage and how to make claims. Customer support is available and you actually get refunded if the unfortunate should occur. Get an immediate quote above for your travel destination(s) or read my full review of World Nomads.

Itineraries and Guides

I put a great deal of time and research into every trip I plan, partially because I love it and partially because I am quite the perfectionist. So save some time and use my itineraries and guides. Get tips on how to plan your own travel or check out my personal travel planning services.
