When in Rome……or Moscow – Moscow Life Update #4

The 2nd semester of my first year in NYC I made a goal for myself to do one new activity every week. (I’m a teacher so I still think of my years as two semesters and a summer. Now I will have to think in trimesters and summer). I’m happy to say for a full year I succeeded. Here in Moscow I haven’t come up with an exact goal yet, but I am really trying and want to say ‘yes’ to opportunities that arrive. The best experiences come when you leave your comfort zone and try new activities. I want to make the most of this year.

So with any event that comes up I have tried to attend. Working for a private school is amazing because they plan free activities. Last weekend they rented out a bowling alley for us. There was a catered dinner, free bowling and a lounge with ping pong and billiards. This Friday night they did a BBQ at school. We have outdoor ovens and a firepit in back of the early years school. People could bring their own alcohol if they wanted. It is crazy to me to have alcohol on a school property.

Afterwards people were going to go out to a bar in my neighborhood. I’m not much into the bar scene and was planning to go home. Thinking of my “yes” goal I ended up going and having a great time. It extended the time getting to know my co-workers. I tried the common garlicky bread that is served at most pub type restaurants. Sort of good, but a bit dense for me.
