Buenos Aires, Argentina is the place to go if you are looking for a diverse, cultural city with the best steak in the world. There is so much history in Buenos Aires that you will want to understand. It’s the perfect city to spend some time exploring. The Latin city is also the gateway to the rest of Argentina and the nearby South American countries.

Regardless of whether you are spending one night in the city before heading down south to Patagonia or several months living like a local in Argentina’s capital, you are probably looking for the best place to stay in Buenos Aires. Everyone looks for something different in accommodation, that’s why this post will help you choose what neighborhood to stay in Buenos Aires and where to stay in each neighborhood based on your preferences.

Where to Stay in Palermo Soho – Buenos Aires

Infinito Hotel

The best hotels in Buenos Aires

The Hotel

My stay at Infinito Hotel started out great from the moment I checked in and found out I was upgraded to a suite thanks to booking.com’s genius perks! The suite was fantastic with an extra large king bed, whirlpool bath, a refrigerator and more space than I knew what to do with. I loved the teal and purple color scheme of the hotel. If you noticed my blog’s colors perhaps you know why!

The whole hotel is kept clean and is very quiet. The following morning I was surprised how many people were at breakfast because I didn’t hear a thing when I was in my room. The buffet breakfast with fruits, cereals, breads and more is included every morning. On the top floor of the hotel there is a sauna and hot tub that are available for all the guests to use.

The staff who spoke English and Spanish were always friendly and helpful with any request. They let me leave one of my suitcases at the hotel for a week when I traveled to Salta. There were no issues when I returned to pick up my suitcase. With the amenities and nightly stays around $60 – 90 USD, the hotel is one of the best places to stay in Buenos Aires.

The Neighborhood

Infinito Hotel is in Palermo Soho, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Palermo Soho (part of the larger Palermo neighborhood), is known for it’s trendy boutiques and diverse range of restaurants. The botanical garden, eco park and Evita museum are all within walking distance. Coto, a supermarket with both groceries and home goods, is only a few minutes walk away. The neighborhood is one of the safest in Buenos Aires. There is a lot of nightlife in the area so I felt safe walking around alone at night.

As I mentioned, you can walk to many restaurants and places of interest. If you want to visit some of the other main sights in Buenos Aires outside of Palermo you can easily take a bus from a block away.

Caravan Boutique Hostel

The Hostel

Caravan Boutique Hostel is a fantastic boutique hostel located in Palermo Soho, one of the best neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. It’s a very small hostel located in what looks more like a townhouse than a hotel building, with a total of 25 beds. There is just one private room and the rest are small dorms of up to 6 beds, each of them very well organized with lockers, private lights and sockets for each bunk bed, and with its own (external) bathroom. Guests enjoy the use of a fully equipped, modern kitchen, and have a beautiful living and dining room to hang out, as well as a garden with a small but pleasant swimming pool and a bar. A good breakfast is served daily, and coffee, tea and mate are available throughout the day. The personnel is incredibly kind, friendly and knowledgeable about the area, offering plenty of tips on things to do. It’s a great place to meet other like-minded travelers.

The Neighborhood

Palermo Soho is one of the best areas in Buenos Aires, packed with excellent restaurants, pubs and hip bars – so it is perfect for a younger audience who wants to enjoy a bit of nightlife. The main square, Plaza Serrano, is home to a weekend market where you can buy souvenirs and other things. There are all sorts of shops in the area. The best thing to do in Palermo is a guided street art tour. If you fancy doing more traditional things you can count on the excellent public transportation system to reach the main attractions such as the Casa Rosada or the Recoleta Cemetery. In Palermo, don’t miss a night out at Perón Perón, a very interesting restaurant concept where good food is served along with memorabilia about the years during which Perón was the president of Argentina.

Where to Stay in Palermo Hollywood – Buenos Aires

Luxury AirBnB Palermo Hollywood

Where to Stay in Palermo Hollywood, Buenos Aires

The AirBnB

This luxury AirBnB was brand new in early 2019. I was one of the first people to stay in the studio apartment. The pristine white apartment was sparkling clean. The plush white towels and crisp white linens made it feel like a luxury hotel. Yet, I felt so comfortable in the apartment and had everything I needed that I felt at home. Having one table for eating and another for working was really convenient. The only downside was the neighbor’s dog who barked a lot during the day. If you are used to dogs or are planning to be gone throughout the day this shouldn’t be a problem.

There are washers and dryers on the top floor of the building. You need to pay with coins or tokens that you can purchase in different convenience stores around the city. While I never met the host, the person that let me into the apartment was there waiting for me when I arrived and showed me around the building. She was available to reach out to during my stay in case I needed anything, which I didn’t.

The Neighborhood

Palermo Hollywood is another neighborhood within the larger Palermo area. It doesn’t have as many places to shop as Palermo Soho, but it does have a large number of restaurants and cafes. With several night clubs and co-working facilities it’s a great place for younger travelers and business travelers. If you are wondering what neighborhood to stay in Buenos Aires, Palermo Hollywood would be my first recommendation. Especially if you are planning to stay awhile and enjoy feeling more like a local when you travel.

The supermarket, Vea Cencosud is nearby the AirBnB. Also the gym, On Fit is a couple blocks away. It offers weekly memberships and is a newer, cleaner gym with a range of equipment and a varied class schedule.

Nuevo d. Studio Luminoso AirBnB

AirBnB in Palermo Hollywood Buenos Aires

The AirBnB

One of the highlights of staying at this AirBnB in Buenos Aires was the host, Juan Francisco. It was my first time staying in an AirBnB and he set the bar high for future hosts. I didn’t fully appreciate how helpful and accommodating he was until I stayed at other host’s places around the world.

The apartment itself is located in a new, modern building. The clean studio is also more well-stocked than many other AirBnBs I have stayed at. On the top floor there is a washing machine that is free to use. A small gym, community room and outdoor patio with hot tub are also on the top floor.

The Neighborhood

The apartment is located on the outskirts of Palermo Hollywood. It borders the Villa Crespo neighborhood which is a quieter, more residential area. As I mentioned above Palermo Hollywood is a great neighborhood for young professionals and anyone who loves eating out and nightlife. The heart of the neighborhood is about a 10 – 15 minutes walk away. The apartment is on the corner of two busy streets with a lot of traffic. If traffic noise bothers you take that into consideration before booking this place. Other than the first night, I honestly slept really well despite all the noise.

I returned late many nights and felt safe walking back. Avenue Córdoba has a lot of vehicle traffic, but not much pedestrian traffic late at night. Therefore, if I was coming from Palermo Soho I felt safer walking on other parallel streets in the busier part of Palermo Hollywood (Gorriti, Honduras, El Salvador).

Where to Stay in San Telmo – Buenos Aires

Kenton Palace Hotel

Kenton Palace Hotel in San Telmo, Buenos Aires.

By Maureen from “So Many Places! So Little Time!” — Facebook

The Hotel

Let’s just start by clarifying one thing, “You get what you pay for!” At around US $65 or EURO 60 for a standard double room, you can not expect a luxurious five-star room with amazing views.

What you do get in abundance at Kenton Palace Hotel is Location! Location! Location! A clean, spacious and comfortable room with helpful staff. That is why we would go back there without hesitation.

The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable and have no views, but with so much to see and do in Buenos Aires we were only there to sleep. The room has a flat-screen TV, a small fridge, and free WiFi (not very speedy), although no tea or coffee making facilities. The breakfast is also basic but adequate. The reception staff, although not appearing to be friendly, were, in fact, very helpful, polite and professional with any queries we had. The building is very secure with guest key access to the main entrance and to operate the elevators.

The Neighborhood

The location is great for sightseeing. The hotel is on the historic, cobblestone Defensa Street in San Telmo, a five to seven minutes walk to the Casa Rosada, (Presidential Palace) the Plaza de Mayo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and several subway stations. The famous San Telmo market is on your doorstep on a Sunday morning. We found several excellent restaurants, cafes, and bars within easy walking distance including our favorite traditional Argentinian Restaurant, Desnivel. Florida Street for shopping is about ten minutes walk away and Teatro Colon (the opera house) a further ten minutes walk. Puerto Madero, the newish modern waterfront neighborhood is about a twenty-minute walk. The location is excellent.

The hotel is frequently used by travel companies for group tours and is an excellent value. We highly recommend it. Check out our post about the amazing street art in Buenos Aires.

l’Adresse Hotel

The Hotel

l’Adresse Hotel is a stylish and cozy boutique hotel. You will often hear that Buenos Aires is the Paris of South America. Well, this charming hotel is owned by a French couple. The European flair is very present and gives the hotel a unique ambiance. The historic charm of San Telmo and Buenos Aires is all combined into the hotel. The hotel was built in 1889 under the architectural style of Casa Chorizo.

The hotel has 3 types of rooms with 13 rooms in total. We loved the slick design of our room with the colorful accents and the very comfortable bed. There is a huge patio, which each room has access to.

Every morning a delicious complimentary breakfast is offered. Since the owners of the hotel are French, the breakfast has homemade French pastries such as madeleines and clafoutis. The orange juice is freshly squeezed every morning to ensure its freshness.

The common parts are very cozy with the warm tones of the wood and blue color splashes. While sitting on the stylish sofas, you can play board games or read the many books and magazines at your disposal. You can also enjoy a nice glass of Argentinian wine or a mate tasting. The staff is extremely friendly. Most of the staff is trilingual (French, Spanish and English) and will make sure to help you and make your stay in the city unforgettable.

The prices are around $80 USD per night for the city room. The price fluctuates a little depending on the season.

The Neighborhood

Perfectly located in San Telmo, the hotel is in one of the most vibrant neighborhoods of Buenos Aires. San Telmo is mostly known for its Sunday Feria. Every Sunday, Calle Defensa and Plaza Dorrego become pedestrian and are transformed into a huge open-air market filled with antique stalls, impromptu tango hotspots, street performers, artisans and souvenir shops. The market, numerous artists, street art, hip cafés and boutique hotels give San Telmo a bohemian vibe.

In San Telmo, you will also find the iconic Mafalda statue which is part of the Comic Strip Walk and the renowned Museum of Modern Art (MAMBA)

There are several bus lines nearby, making access to other neighborhoods easy. San Telmo is not very far from La Boca with its famous colorful buildings in el Caminito. To the east, there is Puerto Madero. The posh Recoleta is not very far away either. Choosing your hotel in a good location is key!

Where to Stay in Recoleta – Buenos Aires

Hotel Club Francés

Hotel Club Francés - Buenos Aires, Argentina

By Heather from Trimm Travels — Instagram

The Hotel

Hotel Club Francés is the perfect hotel if you are looking for luxurious accommodations in Buenos Aires. Located in the upscale neighborhood of Recoleta, the restored French-style historic building boasts beautiful dark furnishings, fantastic service, and delicious food! The first thing that caught my attention was how spacious both the rooms and the bathrooms were. Complete with fine bedding, refrigerators, luxury toiletries, and plush robes, there was nothing left to be desired.

Breakfast is a must. Get your day started right with an array of fresh pastries, juices, jams, and dulce de leche (definitely get dulce de leche here at the hotel and everywhere you can find it in Buenos Aires). Also, take advantage of the made-to-order menu for eggs or French toast. I would also recommend having lunch in the hotel one day. The food is truly that great!

The service was impeccable. Friendly, English-speaking staff helped us from the time we arrived until the time we checked out. They helped us with arrangements such as airport transfers, reservations, and directions. They even provided us with washcloths and towels to use in the spa bathroom to clean up for our international flight since we had to check out of our room and store luggage. Every need was completely covered!

The Neighborhood

As previously mentioned, Hotel Club Francés is located in the prominent upscale neighborhood of Recoleta. This highly-desired area of Buenos Aires is home to the Recoleta Cemetery made famous for the final resting place of Evita. It is only a 9-minute walk from the hotel. Also within a 15-minute walking distance is the El Ateneo Grand Splendid which might be the coolest bookstore I’ve ever seen anywhere in the world. It is a gorgeous old theater that still displays its stage and its individual side balconies. And finally, only a 20-minute walk from the hotel, you will find the famous Floralis Genérica. This 105-foot-wide aluminum flower “blooms” every morning and “closes” every night!

In addition to the major attractions, you will find Recoleta to be much cleaner and quieter than most other areas of Buenos Aires. Among the quiet, local streets there are endless food and shopping options making it the perfect place to stay to make the most of your Buenos Aires visit!

Where to Stay in Retiro – Buenos Aires

The Sheraton Hotel Buenos Aires

The Sheraton Buenos Aires

By Ricky from Prince of TravelInstagram

The Hotel

Located in the fashionable Retiro neighborhood, the Sheraton Buenos Aires is a comfortable place to stay for your visit to the Argentine capital. It features unassuming interiors and well-appointed guest rooms, including the brand-standard Sheraton Sweet Sleeper bedding. No matter which room you’re assigned, your views will be quite captivating, facing either Plaza San Martin at the centre of Retiro, or the Rio de la Plata on the opposite side.

For those who collect Marriott Bonvoy points, the Sheraton is also a great choice for redeeming points for your stay, and you can also access the hotel’s Club Lounge, with views overlooking Plaza San Martin, for a daily breakfast and evening nightcap.

As a convention centre hotel, the Sheraton also offers guests a wide range of additional amenities, such as a 24/7 gym, outdoor and indoor pools, a grab-and-go breakfast spot in the lobby, and a full sit-down Italian restaurant on the premises.

The Neighborhood

The Retiro neighborhood is known as one of Buenos Aires’s most wealthy barrios, and is well-positioned centrally among the most popular tourist destinations. You’ll find the Casa Rosada, San Telmo Market, and La Boca as you head south from Retiro, whereas the affluence of Recoleta and Palermo lies to the northwest. If you enjoy walking around, it’s a particularly pleasant 30-minute walk down to San Telmo; otherwise, Uber will get you wherever you need to go.

Retiro itself also plays host to the Torre Monumental, the central fixture in the urban green space of Plaza San Martin and a marker of the city’s prominent British community, as well as a wide range of shopping options, from flea markets to high-end stores.

In terms of transportation links, the neighborhood is also well-served by the Retiro train station, and the Tienda León airport bus station that brings you to Ezeiza International Airport is located mere steps away from the Sheraton as well.

Where to Stay in DOHO (Villa Urquiza) – Buenos Aires

Villa Urquiza AirBnB

DOHO Buenos Aires AirBnB

By Rebecca from Becci AbroadInstagram

The AirBnB

This AirBnB is a small modern one-bedroom apartment with all the utilities and comforts that you would need to have a pleasant stay in Buenos Aires. The apartment has a nice little balcony overlooking the back of the building. This means no sun in the afternoons, and makes it the perfect place for spending the afternoon on a hot summer day in Buenos Aires. The bathroom and kitchen is separated from the rest of the apartment, and hence, makes it possible to cook without having the smell of food all over the place.

Apart from having a beautifully decorated interior, the absolute best feature of the apartment – in my opinion – is that it has both an indoor pool and a smaller outdoor pool on the roof! From up there you have a beautiful view over the neighborhood and its many parks and green spots.

Washing machines and dryers are available in the basement. There is also a nice and friendly 24/7 security staff that will let you in if you forgot your keys.

The Neighborhood

You might have heard about Palermo Soho when researching for places to stay in Buenos Aires. But have you ever heard about DOHO?

DOHO is a new, modern area with restaurants, bars and also AirBnB’s all located in recently built apartment blocks with modern touches. You are not likely to find anything like this elsewhere in Buenos Aires. According to a local Argentine newspaper, DOHO is the new Palermo Soho. So, if you want to be on the beat and get an authentic feeling for life in a yet not so touristic area of Buenos Aires, DOHO in Villa Urquiza is the place for you.

DOHO is located just between the neighborhood of Belgrano and Villa Urquiza, which are neighborhoods not often visited by tourists. It is also the perfect place for those of you looking to relax in a quiet area, while still being close to the main attractions of the city. Both local buses and the subway are close by, and can get you to almost anywhere in Buenos Aires.

Great list of accommodation here. I havent got to Argentina and BA just yet but this will give me a clue somewhat on what I should be looking for and the areas. Hoping to hit up the country next year if my budget allows it.

  • Adele Gee

Its very important where to set up base when one wants to explore the city. Especially when solo travelling another factor is the safety while going in and out of the lodging. The AirBnb in Buenos Aires with a hot tub on the patio sounds really appealing to me , especially after a long sightseeing day. Thanks for this list!

  • Pooja

Buenos Aires has been on my travel list for so long. Would love to visit it soon. The Kenton Palace hotel looks like a perfect place for me. It’s right in the middle of the attractions. Saves travel time and cost. However Plaza Serrano looks so vibrant and colorful. So many great options to choose from.

  • Rachelle

Palermo Soho is a fantastic neighborhood! I loved spending time there and agree that it’s one of the best neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. I didn’t stay at the Caravan Boutique Hostel, but I definitely need to. It sounds like the perfect location.

  • Linda (LD Holland)

We are in Buenos Aires for 2 days but will be on a cruise ship. But it was great to read about the different neighborhoods as we will be touring around on our own. We will definitely be planning to visit the Botanical Garden in the Palermo Soho area. A guided street art tour would also be fun in this area. I saved your post for future planning. It was good to read that many of the neighborhoods are safe for walking around.

    • admin

Buenos Aires has some great neighborhoods. You do need to be careful walking around, but as long as you are aware of your surroundings and your belongings you should be fine. There are some issues with petty theft in the touristy areas.

  • Bhushavali N

I haven’t crossed the Atlantic yet! I hope I’ll get to visit Argentina and esp., Buenos Aires in the future. The variety of accommodations available here are pretty varied, suitable for all budget levels and price points.
Caravan Boutique Hostel is definitely a great option. The location is great. Taking the street art tour or going to Casa Rosada or Recoleta Cemetery for a trip would be awesome.
Getting pampered for a night at Hotel Club Francés would be a great experience too!

  • Kate

I love the vintage look of Hotel Club Frances! Plus, visiting the final resting place of Evita being close by, along with other attractions makes this even more appealing! And Kenton Palace also looks like an exceptional location with having so many food options so close!

  • Archana Singh

What a fantastic list of accommodations in Buenos Aires. I like all the options you shared whether it’s a hotel, hostel or an AirBnB. I think I’ll be more inclined to stay at the Luxury AirBnB in Palermo Hollywood. Looks very cosy and very pristine. The neighbourhood is a big plus for me. I am not a big shopper, so its perfect for me. You were lucky to be the first visitors in that brand new property.
