Who doesn’t love a juicy burger? Burgers are one of the most classic American meals for a reason. The real question is, who makes the best burger in Atlanta? Whether you are looking for a simple burger with the traditional toppings or a big burger loaded up with toppings galore, there is a burger for you in Atlanta!

Like all my food posts, the burgers in this post are the best burgers in Atlanta…..that means actually in Atlanta, not the metro area!

Who Grills the Best Burger in Atlanta?

All the locations of the Atlanta burger places that are ITP (inside the perimeter) are marked above.

The Vortex

The Vortex: best hamburger in Atlanta

This bar and burger restaurant is on everyone’s list of the best burger places in Atlanta. There are two locations, one in Little Five Points and one in Midtown. I was in Atlanta for over a year before I finally got to try it myself and I was quite impressed.

It is a bar so you need to be 21 plus to eat here anytime of the day. You will be asked to show ID before entering. There’s an interesting red and black vibe with the ceilings and walls covered with signs, photos, and an assortment of items. As it is fairly loud here, it’s not the place for a relaxing dinner. You won’t get bored looking around though!

The burgers are excellent. I had the Classic Bypass which comes topped with a fried egg, two slices of cheese, and three slices of bacon. There’s also a single, double, triple, and quadruple Coronary Bypass Burger. The quadruple has 9,606 calories and is free if you can eat it all in 30 minutes! That is no easy feat with 8 slices of Texas Toast, 12 sirloin patties, 28 slices of cheese, 4 fried eggs, 27 strips of bacon, grilled onions, relish and mayo. That doesn’t even include the extra toppings!

It is not just the burgers that are delicious, but the sides are too. The tater tots are nice and crispy. The fried plantains are a good alternative to the typical burger sides.

Grindhouse Killer Burgers

Grindhouse Killer Burgers: burger joints in Atlanta

Grindhouse Killer Burgers has a few locations in Atlanta and the surrounding metro area. I’m always a sucker for a create your own menu whether it is for salads, pasta, or burgers! Here you can create your own burger by choosing your grind (protein), size, and toppings.

They have several different burger sauce choices. If you read my Atlanta BBQ post you know the best BBQ spots in the city and that I love sauce. As a side note I prefer sauce on my salads instead of salad dressing (really you should try it)! Anyway, back to Grindhouse…… The spicy Diablo sauce was right up my alley!

The burgers were great, but the sweet potato fries were the real highlight for me. I’m not a big fan of fries so whenever I love them it is a big deal! They were just the right amount of crispy and seasoned.

Mix’D Up Burgers

Mix'D Up Burgers: best burgers Atlanta

I have noticed Mix’D Up Burgers doesn’t always make it on lists of the best burgers in Atlanta. I have no idea why! They are one of my favorite Atlanta burger places. Compared to other spots they have a smaller menu, but when their burgers are as good as they are you don’t need more options.

The “El Sombrero” burger is by far my favorite. The mix of beef and chorizo with pico de gallo and avocado on top is perfect. As for prices, they are some of the best too.

East Lake and Grant Park are the two main locations. There’s also one at Pour Taproom in Midtown. The menus are slightly different at each location, but most of their “rockin burgers” you can order at each one. The Grant Park location is drive thru only currently. It’s near the busy intersection of Memorial & Boulevard. You can’t miss the big hamburger mural on the side of the building, one of my favorite Atlanta murals!

Little’s Food Store

Little's Food Store: Atlanta best burger

I kept hearing that Little’s Food Store makes the best burgers in Atlanta so I had to give them a try. Little’s is a grocery store in Cabbagetown that has been serving the neighborhood since 1929! When a place has been around since the 1920s you know it is going to be good!

The selection is pretty basic with classic cheeseburgers and sides of fries or slaw. I had a burger with just lettuce, tomato, and onions. Usually I like food with a bit more flavors, sauces, or toppings. I was very impressed with the burger! I rarely order fries unless they are sweet potato fries, but even the basic hand cut fries that came with my order were really good. I don’t know if I am liking fries more or they are just getting better!

In addition to burgers you can also order hot dogs and sandwiches. Plus you can find your grocery staples while your burger is being cooked. Don’t take too long though because your food will come out quickly. Oakland Cemetery, around the corner, is a great place to enjoy your burger. Plus it is one of the best spots to walk in Atlanta.

Farm Burger

Farm Burger: best hamburger Atlanta

With several locations around the city you are never too far away from a Farm Burger. That’s how it should be because they make a mean burger. You can order one of their “blackboard burgers” or build your own burger starting with the type of meat. They also have weekly special burgers. I loved my chorizo-pork combination burger with a fried egg and salsa on top!

On the menu you will also find snacks, fries, onion rings, and seasonal salads. The sweet potato hushpuppies and apple butter might not be your typical burger side, but it worked for me! Plus there is a Lil Farmers menu for younger diners.

The Elder Tree Public House

Elder Tree Public House

This Irish pub in East Atlanta Village serves classic pub fare such as shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, and corned beef and cabbage. They are a great spot to catch soccer matches and enjoy European beers at the bar.

The gastropub should also be known as one of the best burger restaurants in Atlanta. The red devil burger with garlic hot sauce is flavorful and juicy. You can enjoy one of their burgers on any visit, but Wednesdays are the best day to visit with the burger specials.

Cypress Street Pint & Plate

Cypress Street Pint & Plate: best burger places in Atlanta

I saved one of the best burgers in Atlanta for last. It’s also one of the most unique, the Krispy Kreme burger at Cypress Street Pint & Plate. The mix of sweet and savory is nothing new, but I haven’t seen this burger and donut combination anywhere else. I’m clearly in love with donuts and let’s just say no one has ever mistaken me for a vegetarian. The burger and donut combination made me quite happy, plus there are other toppings like BBQ sauce and bacon piled on!

If you are ordering a burger I don’t know why you wouldn’t order the donut burger, but there are some other varieties as well. I had the sweet potato fries as a side. They were good, but I wouldn’t rave about them.

In front of the restaurant is a large outdoor eating area. It feels like eating on a large plaza at the corner of two streets. There are no reservations and no waitlist. It’s first come, first serve. It’s an odd system to hover by people you think are finishing soon.

Try all these Atlanta burger places for yourself and let me know which one you like the best!
