I Made It to Moscow!

After all my visa hassles and the government hype everyone was warning me about I was quite surprised by the ease of going through customs in Moscow, Russia!

Finding my taxi driver was a tad more difficult. I was really looking forward to having my name held up by one of those signs. It was one of those minor life goals I have always had! Turns out it can be quite overwhelming to maneuver through a group of people looking for my name with two large rolly suitcases, 1 satchel bag, 1 backpack and 1 purse.

I was the only one coming out at the time so it had a bit of a celebrity feel with all eyes on me as I came out the door. Unfortunately it wasn’t the thrill I was expecting. Taxi drivers kept coming up to me asking to give me rides. I kept saying I had a driver. Due to the language barrier and a moment of confusion when I thought one driver was from my school simply because I recognized the word on his tag, I almost went with the wrong driver. Luckily I realized the word was the name of the airport and continued my rounds in search of my name. I found my driver and I was off to my apartment.

A woman from HR at my school meet me at my apartment and showed me around my apartment. She helped me get a Russian SIM card as well. There was food in the fridge and brand new sheets on my bed. I was very impressed with how well thought out and organized my new school is!

Let’s see how the first day of school goes tomorrow!
