Tomorrow is spring already, well in the northern hemisphere! Honestly I am kind of mixed up on my seasons. Last fall it was  actually spring when I was in Argentina. Then I had a bitterly cold winter in Wisconsin, USA. Now I have been spending the reminder of winter in Chile, where it is summer right now! Got that?

If you are new to the Fearless Foreigner, catch up where I was Summer 2018 and Fall 2018.

January

In January I started to come out of hibernation after laying low to heal my injury. Still in my hometown in Wisconsin, I got together with a lot of friends from childhood. One friend I hadn’t seen in over 10 years! Along with time with friends and family, one of the best parts about being home for so long was all of the home-cooked meals!

February

February I went full speed ahead back to traveling! I started the month off with a short trip to Chicago. Thankfully it wasn’t quite as cold as the year before. My mom and I discovered the Chicago Cultural Center, which is full of art exhibits and events. We brought in the year of the pig at the opening ceremony of Chinese New Year at the cultural center. You can’t go to Chicago without doing some shopping or pizza eating, so we made time for that too!

Then I ditched my jacket with my mom in Chicago and took off to Jamaica! I got a taste of an all-inclusive resort last February in the Canary Islands. I stayed at a resort, but only did a half-board and spent every day doing excursions or touring the town. My stay with my family at Jewel Runaway Bay Beach Resort in Jamaica was totally different. Typically when I travel I like to do a lot of culture and adventure activities, I wasn’t sure what I would think of being poolside or oceanside for a week. Well, let me tell you….I loved it! So family, how about another beach gateway next year!? It turns out I love EVERY type of vacation!

February & March

From Jamaica I flew directly to Santiago, Chile (with a layover in Miami). I have been in Santiago ever since, enjoying the blue skies and sunshine in the middle of what I typically know as winter. Seriously I don’t even need to check the weather here. Every day is sunny and between 80 – 90 degrees.

When I’m not basking in the sun at my apartment’s pool, I am out touring the city. Santiago is a city of parks and hills.

To cool off and to learn some culture and history of Chile I have been visiting many museums, like the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, and cultural centers in the city. Also I am trying to comprehend the Chilean Spanish during language exchanges!

Wondering where I am heading to next? Stay tuned!

Was your winter a cold one or did you escape to somewhere warm for the season? What season does it actually feel like where you are now?
